I am Bigger Than Fela, WizKid Fires Back At Seun Kuti

Afrobeats icon Wizkid has ignited fresh controversy by directly addressing Seun Kuti, the youngest son of the iconic Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, in a series of pointed Instagram stories on 20 January 2026.

The exchange stems from ongoing tensions between Seun and Wizkid’s devoted fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, who have been accused by Seun of disrespecting Fela’s legacy through comparisons favouring Wizkid

The spat, which has dominated X (formerly Twitter) timelines, highlights the contrast between Fela’s politically charged Afrobeat and Wizkid’s global Afrobeats success.

Wizkid, who had previously stayed silent, appeared to be provoked by Seun’s claims that he does not value his fans. This led to a barrage of stories where Wizkid not only claimed superiority but also reposted a fan’s video harshly criticising Seun and the Kuti family.

In one widely shared post, the 35-year-old hitmaker wrote in a now-deleted post: “@bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than u do papa!! Wetin u one do f**l?”

Another story escalated the insult: “P*y boy @bigbirdkuti ok I big pass your papa!! Wetin u one do ? Fl at 40!

A third simply stated: “@bigbirdkuti Hungry boy! U too small! Na ur papa we dey talk to.”

Additionally, Wizkid reposted a fan’s video with the caption: “Seun kuti omo baba oni pata gig an 😂😂.”

These posts came after a series of scathing posts on X from Wizkid aimed at Seun Kuti. One post read: “Fela fight for freedom this fool Dey fight fc! Oloshi Omo ale!”

In turn, Seun wasted no time in replying to Wizkid on Instagram, telling the Grammy winner: “Just be yourself, short Man. you are also great,” before labelling Wizkid a b****h for deleting his earlier posts on his Instagram Stories.

The online reaction has been intense, with users divided over the back and forth.

Davido denies paternity claim of alleged daughter

Afrobeats star Davido has refuted allegations suggesting he is the father of a teenage girl who recently demanded a DNA test to confirm her paternity.

The singer clarified that he has never been involved in any personal relationship with the girl’s mother, adding that his first and only interaction with them occurred during the DNA testing exercise.

Davido revealed that a total of five DNA tests were carried out across different medical centers

He explained that he personally selected three of the hospitals, while the girl and her mother chose the remaining two.

According to him, all the test results unanimously showed that he is not the child’s biological father.

He described the entire episode as emotionally taxing and accused the girl’s mother of inappropriate conduct, while emphasising that he does not blame the teenager for the situation.

“This is the last time I will speak on this matter,” the singer said, insisting that the issue should be considered settled based on the medical findings.

Ayo Labinjoh, the mother of singer Davido’s alleged teenage daughter, Aanu Adeleke, has finally broken her silence on her daughter’s DNA test controversy.

Speaking amid the ongoing controversy in a statement shared on her daughter’s Instagram page, Aanu Adeleke’s mother, Ayo Labinjoh, who revealed that she met Davido at HQClub, accused the singer of abandoning her because he thought she was a prostitute.

Ayo also countered the singer’s DNA claim, explaining that Davido’s father only took them to a laboratory for the test and not a hospital.

While tagging the test results as fake, she said: “Dr Deji Adeleke took us to a lab, not a hospital, where Anu’s blood was drawn in 2014, then discarded behind our backs, and a fake result was printed.

Wizkid Becomes First African Artist to Surpass 10 Billion Spotify Streams

Nigerian megastar Wizkid has become the first African artist to exceed 10 billion streams on Spotify across all credits. This milestone, confirmed by industry trackers, cements his status as a trailblazer who has propelled African music onto the international stage.

Born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, his journey from rising star to the face of Afrobeats and subsequently global stardom is a testament to his innovative sound, strategic collaborations, constant evolution, and massive fanbase.

This record-breaking feat arrives amid a surge in Afrobeats’ popularity, with Wizkid at the forefront. As of early January 2026, Wizkid boasts more than 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His catalogue continues to resonate with fans worldwide, blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary R&B, dancehall, and pop elements.

His streams have been bolstered by a mix of solo hits, features, and albums that have amassed billions of plays.

Wizkid’s ascent to this Spotify pinnacle began in the early 2010s with his debut album Superstar (2011), which introduced infectious tracks like “Holla at Your Boy” and “Don’t Dull,” establishing him as the next big thing.

However, it was his 2014 single “Ojuelegba” that truly marked a turning point, not just for his career but for the entire Afrobeats movement. “Ojuelegba” captured the raw hustle of urban life in Nigeria, blending heartfelt lyrics with infectious rhythms. It became an anthem for dreamers, hustlers, and underdogs across Africa. With over 100 million streams on Spotify, “Ojuelegba” was the first Afrobeats track to attract major mainstream artists for a remix, featuring Drake and Skepta in 2015, which unlocked unprecedented international awareness and critical acclaim for the genre.

This remix propelled Afrobeats into global conversations and is rightfully considered one of the greatest Afrobeats songs of all time.
