Nigerian Music Superstar TuBaba announces Divorce

Nigerian music icon Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has disclosed that he and his wife, Annie Macaulay-Idibia, are separated and awaiting divorce.

The Afrobeats legend announced the development in a post on his verified Instagram account on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

In the post, 2Baba confirmed that the duo had been separated for a while and recently filed a divorce.

The musician promised to issue a statement soon to tell his side of the story to his beloved fans, whom he said deserve to know what has transpired between him and his estranged wife.

“Hello to my beautiful people of all FEDERATIONS,” he wrote.

“WELL THIS THING I HAVE TO SAY IS SHORT BUT ALSO LONG…. I AND ANNIE MACAULAY HAVE BEEN SEPARATED FOR A WHILE NOW. AND CURRENTLY FILED DIVORCE…

I WOULD GRANT A PRESS RELEASE SOON TO SAY MY STORY..NOT BECAUSE IT IS ANYONE’S RIGHT TO KNOW ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE; BUT BECAUSE I LOVE MY PEOPLE AND I NEED THEM TO KNOW MY INNOCENCE OR OFFENSE.

“STAY BLESSED MY PEOPLE. I LOVE YOU ALL,” 2Baba concluded

On January 26, 2024, when 2Baba was announced, Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa expressed her outrage and disappointment in his comment section, stressing that she was on Annie’s side.

She wrote, “This is wrong on all levels, and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing this here. Bring it on; if you think she’s all alone, let me tell you that you’ll have to fight us all here.”

I’m not one for too much talk, but what is wrong is wrong, and as a woman, if you sit on the fence on this one, if it misses you, it’ll touch your daughter or any female in your family. No one is innocent, and if you want to bring the media into it knowing what is happening, we will fight for her,” she added in another Instagram story post.

BBNaija star Khloe was also outraged by the announcement and voiced her support of Annie in the comment section.

This period? Like this time? This season? Oh hell no. See ehn, make I just no talk anything right now. Make this a prank o! Men.. Fight Annie, fight all of us o, Love is really wicked. Men ahhh.

Among the multitudes of comments was one from popular Nigerian entrepreneur Ifedayo Agoro, the founder of Diary of a Naija Girl (DANG), who was equally upset.

First, they groom you, then you lose yourself, and then they dump you. I am so angry! I never involve myself with things like this, but this is disgusting behavior by this man. In the time when this woman was being bashed, you had to say this? Knowing you constantly humiliated her publicity since I was 18 years old? Why now? Why heap more fire on her reputation? Never, ever, ever choose a man over yourself. No one is indispensable! Gosh

MTV Ends Its 40-Year Run of Music Channels

For decades, MTV was more than a broadcaster; it was a cultural beacon. It shaped how generations discovered music, trends, fashion, and youth identity.

Iconic moments from MTV Unplugged to debuting breakthrough videos became part of music history.

However, the company has taken a new direction by axing five of its major music channels.
MTV’s music channels have reportedly seen dwindling viewership in recent years – a declining trend that advertising revenue and budgets simply cannot ignore.

Paramount Global is reportedly seeking cost cuts of up to US$500 million across its portfolio. The merger with Skydance Media also exerts financial pressure to consolidate legacy operations.

A source told The UK Sun: “It’s a dark day for the music industry.

“MTV was once an industry powerhouse, but now it is a total shell of its former self.”

The decision reflects a broader truth: audiences no longer wait for music videos on TV

Streaming platforms, social media short clips, and on-demand video services now dominate how we consume music.

On social media platforms like X, the announcement has provoked waves of nostalgia. Many lament that younger generations will never know MTV’s formative power.

One fan wrote: “When I was a kid, I never thought I’d see the day MTV is gone .. RIP”

While the music channels are shutting down, MTV as a brand will live on through digital platforms, streaming, events, and perhaps new formats. Still, for many, the closing of those five music channels marks the end of a television era that once defined how the world experienced music together.

Paul Okoye vows legal action over defamatory allegations by X user

Nigerian music star, Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy of P-Square, has threatened legal action against a social media user who accused him of misconduct involving a domestic staff.

The controversy began after photos from the 25th birthday celebration of Rudeboy’s wife, Ivy Ifeoma, made the rounds on X (formerly Twitter).

An X user, @Zoyabloms, who identified as ‘Evil Feminist,’ mocked the couple’s age difference, while another user, @darkskinnedtemi, also identifying as a feminist, escalated the conversation with damaging claims.

The X user suggested cheating allegations on Rudeboy with his housemaid.

One account, identified as @chubbiedivah, alleged that the singer coerced their household help, suggesting she was underage at the time, further claiming he expelled his then-wife and sister-in-law after being confronted.

The post quickly caught the attention of Rudeboy’s fans, who drew his attention to it.

In a swift reaction, the “Reason With Me” hitmaker vowed to track down the user and hold them accountable.

He wrote, “I hardly reply, but you see this one @chubbiedivah, if you like go private or leave X, I will find you, I will use every necessary means, power, resources and money.

“You will face the law, I will use you to set an example, a scapegoat. Your only way out is to leave the surface of this earth and relocate to space. To everyone that brought my attention to her tweet, thank you.”

Following his response, the user in question deactivated both her X and Instagram accounts, seemingly in an attempt to avoid further fallout.
