Cristiano Ronaldo has announced the death of one of his twins.
The Portuguese and Manchester United forward announced this in a brief statement released through his Instagram page on Monday evening on the 18th of April.
Ronaldo’s long-term partner Spanish model Georgina Rodríguez gave birth to twin babies, a boy, and a girl, but unfortunately, the boy passed away right after delivery.
In the poignant Instagram statement, the ace footballer described losing his son as “the greatest pain.” He added that his family felt consoled by their baby girl who survived the delivery process.
While the football star did not describe what led to his son’s death, medical incompetence seems ruled out as he thanked the medical personnel for their “expert care and support.”
The Man U striker ended the statement co-signed by his partner by asking for privacy as they mourn their baby boy.
Ronaldo’s statement reads in full;
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” Ronaldo and Rodriguez wrote. “It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.”
“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.”
“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

Condolence messages have poured in in the hours since Ronaldo released the statement. His team Manchester United wrote on Twitter; “Your pain is our pain. Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”
“Thoughts are with you and Georgina brother I’m so sorry,” wrote teammate Marcus Rashford.
Ronaldo had announced that he was expecting twin babies with Georgina in October 2021. With the new addition, Ronaldo is now a father of 5. With his current partner Georgina, Ronaldo welcomed a daughter, Alana Martina, on 12 November 2017. He has a set of twins born via surrogacy and a son Cristiano Jnr born in 2010 to a mother whose identity has since been concealed.
