Married Lady Recounts Traumatizing Experience With Burner Boy At Cubana Nightclub

Burna Boy

Nigerian afro-beats star Burna Boy sat atop today’s Twitter trends after a married lady recounted how accomplices of the 20 10 20 singer attacked her and her friends at the club after she severally rejected his inappropriate advances.

The married lady named Briella Neme took to her Instagram story to share what transpired between herself and Burna Boy. She revealed that the incident which has left her traumatized occurred on the 8th of June at the famous Victoria Island nightclub, Cuba owned and run by popular businessman Obi Cubana.

Briella recounted that she and her friends had traveled from America and London for a friend’s wedding in Lagos and later converged at the popular nightclub for some more fun. In the company of her husband and other friends, Briella narrated how she was approached by one of Burna’s bodyguards who told her that Burna sought her attention at his side of the VIP section to which she politely refused, noting that she was married and with her husband.

Regardless, Burna’s guard was adamant, she said, as he approached her a second and then a third time with the same request. Soon Briella and her friends became infuriated with the inappropriate advances which triggered a brawl that later turned deadly to their shock. Though security stepped in to quell the fight, the whole incident turned deadly after Burna’s guards opened fire at the club shooting two of her friends who were lucky to escape with their lives.

Briella concluded her writing by noting that there was no action from Cubana’s management to address the situation either. She expressed disdain at Burna’s remorseful reaction to the incident she said could have claimed the lives of her friends.

“We were visiting Nigeria from America and London for our childhood friend’s wedding. On the 8th of June 2022, @burnaboygram & his friends opened fire at us in @cubanalagos. My partner and his friend were shot, with both needing urgent medical care. A bullet grazed my partner’s head and our friend was shot in the thigh, leaving him hospitalised and needing an emergency surgery in Nigeria.”

“As the night progressed, one of Burna Boy’s friends walked to talk to me, his request was for Burna Boy to talk to me. On that first attempt, I told him I wasn’t interested in talking to Burna Boy and I am married to my partner. He came again the second time and was met with the same response.”

“He came the third time and that caused a few of our friends to flare up as they asked why he kept coming to disturb me. There were words back and forth and one of Burna Boy’s friends attacked one of our friends, and as they attacked him, the situation degenerated into a fight.”

“At this point, I couldn’t find my partner or my best friend. I was screaming for help after being lifted and thrown so hard on the floor by one of Burna’s friends and I hurt my left shoulder. All our private police officers were not allowed into the club, so it was left to us to fight for our lives. One of our friends @theflowolf was trying to get Burna Boy to calm the situation but he only laughed at him and proceeded to get in his car whilst being protected by his security.”

“The shootings happened twice at different times. His friends were also shooting at people trying to evacuate the club through the main entrance. They were out to kill and didn’t care who got hit. My partner’s head was bleeding profusely and his friend lost so much blood he needed a donor As soon as he got to the hospital.”

“@burnaboygram left @cubanalagos without a scratch and flew out to Spain the next morning.”

“@obi_cubana only reached out to us four days after the event claiming he had no idea and would do everything to get us justice for attempted murder. 11 days later, there has been no CCTV footage released by the club OR even a statement to address the incident publicly. Business has carried on as usual for him.”

“To sum things up, I’m traumatised. I’ve broken down every day since then. The random flashbacks and nightmares. Especially after seeing @burnaboygram’s response. The lack of remorse or accountability is beyond me. At least two people could’ve died that night.”

It would be recalled that the police arrested some of their men attached to Burna Boy after the incident occurred. Others who witnessed the incident also took to social media to recount their side of the story.

Burna Boy responded to the allegations from Spain, tweeting;

“Nigerian Social media can say BURNA BOY started Boko haram, e no go shock me.”

The fresh revelations from Briella Neme saw Burna come under fresh fire on social media. Many Nigerians have described Burna’s actions as hypocritical referencing his criticism of police brutality and saying that he’s no different from them.

‘I smoked 40 sticks a day for 13 years’: Ebuka opens up on nicotine addiction as Banky W revisits porn struggle

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu says he smoked up to 40 cigarettes daily for 13 years, while Banky W revisited his past pornography addiction on Mentality with Ebuka. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has revealed that he began smoking in JSS3 and spent the next 13 years addicted to cigarettes, reaching a peak of two packs, roughly 40 sticks, every single day by the time he was in university.

The television host disclosed the latest episode of his podcast Mentality with Ebuka, which aired on Friday, May 22. The episode featured singer and pastor Banky W and medical content creator Aproko Doctor in a candid conversation about addiction, its origins, and the long road out of it.

“I started smoking in JSS3, which is crazy young,” Ebuka said. “It was basically peer pressure, wanting to prove myself, wanting to belong. By the time I was done with secondary school, I had become full-on. Got into university, and by university, I was doing about two packs a day. That’s about 40 sticks of cigarettes every single day.”

He added that his exit from the habit was less a dramatic decision and more a test of willpower. “The last stick of cigarettes I had was in February 2008. I didn’t quit. I just kept saying let me see how much longer I will hold out for, and now it’s been almost 18 years.”

Banky W used the same platform to revisit a confession he had made publicly before, his years-long struggle with pornography addiction, tracing it back to a freshman dormitory in a New York university where a classmate had shared an open hard drive filled with explicit content accessible to the entire floor.

“I wonder how many of us got trapped in that moment,” he said. He described the experience of trying to stop as a confrontation with something far more entrenched than he had anticipated.

“When it’s now time to stop, you realise you’re dealing with demons that are much stronger than you. That was where the reality dawned on me.” He said it took a deliberate journey to reach a place of freedom, and that he has since addressed the issue openly from the pulpit, part of what he described as a growing willingness among pastors to tackle subjects previously considered too uncomfortable for the church.

The episode is the latest in Ebuka’s Mentality series, which has carved out a space for honest, personal conversations that Nigerian public figures rarely have on record.

Asake Drops fourth studio album M$NEY, featuring DJ Snake, Tiakola Amongst Others

Four albums in, two Grammy nominations to his name, the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, and the most-streamed artist on Spotify Nigeria, Asake drops M$NEY, his fourth studio album released on the 1st of May via GIRAN REPUBLIC and EMPIRE.

The 13-track project is Asake’s most sonically varied to date. It opens with a live choral performance (an unusual choice that immediately signals this is not going to be a straightforward Afrobeats record) and moves through orchestral arrangements, jazz-tinged strings, dance production, and amapiano before it is done.

Speaking on the album, Asake said: “M$NEY is a reflection of my spiritual and creative journey. Everything flows from a place of gratitude to God, and every moment that’s shaped me. I stay true to myself but also weave in new creative expressions from my life experiences and personal evolution.”

Fans got their first taste of the project as far back as February 2025 with ‘Why Love’, followed by ‘Badman Gangsta’ featuring French artist Tiakola, a track built around a reimagined sample of Amerie’s ‘1 Thing’ that turned out to be one of the more interesting sonic swings of his singles run.

Then came ‘Worship’ with DJ Snake, which pushed the project into full cross-continental territory.

The full album expands on all of that. Outside the previously released singles, the album includes ‘Gratitude’, ‘Forgiveness’, and ‘Asambe’, a collaboration with South African amapiano producer Kabza De Small. It’s a pairing that will likely draw attention, given both artists’ standing in their respective markets.

The album artwork was created by Iraqi-Dutch artist Arthar Jabar.
