Jide Kosoko, Others Under Fire For Endorsing Tinubu For President

Jide Kosoko

Jide Kosoko alongside a number of other Yoruba movie actors have come under fire on Wednesday after they openly endorsed Bola Ahmed Tinubu for President come 2023.

Kosoko was among the many Yoruba actors who appeared in the 1-minute video clip shared by fellow actor Yinka Quadri on his Instagram page where all the actors present took turns to voice support for BAT in their native Yoruba tongue.

In addition to Jide Kosoko and Yinka Quadri, other notable Yoruba actors seen in the clip were; Fausat Balogun, Taiwo Hassan, Femi Adebayo, Shola Kosoko, Faithia Williams, Saheed Balogun, Murphy Afolabi, and Eniola Ajao.

In the caption section of the post, Quadri further emphasized what he had said in the video writing that it was “crystal clear” that it was the turn of the Yorubas to serve as the nation’s president and claimed that Tinubu was the best candidate because “he is a man who is ready to sacrifice all he has for his fatherland.” The actor went on to laud Tinubu describing him as “a bridge builder across regional, ethnic, and religious lines that is capable of uniting the country.” He further added that “Majority of actors who venture into politics today do so because of the influence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Shortly after the video was released, Jide Kosoko came under fire on social media where many criticized his support for BAT as being borne out of ethnic/tribal bigotry and personal interest rather than on the grounds of competence. An old photo of Kosoko protesting against Goodluck Jonathan’s government in the #OccupyNigeria movement was dug up with many noting how he has been quiet on other issues that have since plagued Nigerians such as the #EndSARS movement.

A user with the handle @Afatiafu_ wrote;

“Jide Kosoko and others gave us Buhari in 2015. These are the descendants who should have considered posterity. Today, they left me with the consequences of poverty, joblessness and injustice. The best they can do is to right that evil. Yet, go ahead to support potential threat.”

Another @DahkDutch Tweeted;

“The fact that Odunlade was not even in the video, has discredited it already. Jide Kosoko is a known political jobber, he endorsed Buhari, so, he will definitely endorse Tinubu too.

But we have gone past that stage, of listening to people who feed from politicians”

@SirDavidBent quickly garnered likes for his tweet that read;

“Before you cancel Yoruba Nollywood, not every actor there is supporting Tinubu. Okunnu called out the government in a video and rained curses on them for the incessant hardship. He wasn’t in that video with Jide Kosoko. Neither was Odunlade. Some people still have conscience.”

Asake Drops fourth studio album M$NEY, featuring DJ Snake, Tiakola Amongst Others

Four albums in, two Grammy nominations to his name, the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, and the most-streamed artist on Spotify Nigeria, Asake drops M$NEY, his fourth studio album released on the 1st of May via GIRAN REPUBLIC and EMPIRE.

The 13-track project is Asake’s most sonically varied to date. It opens with a live choral performance (an unusual choice that immediately signals this is not going to be a straightforward Afrobeats record) and moves through orchestral arrangements, jazz-tinged strings, dance production, and amapiano before it is done.

Speaking on the album, Asake said: “M$NEY is a reflection of my spiritual and creative journey. Everything flows from a place of gratitude to God, and every moment that’s shaped me. I stay true to myself but also weave in new creative expressions from my life experiences and personal evolution.”

Fans got their first taste of the project as far back as February 2025 with ‘Why Love’, followed by ‘Badman Gangsta’ featuring French artist Tiakola, a track built around a reimagined sample of Amerie’s ‘1 Thing’ that turned out to be one of the more interesting sonic swings of his singles run.

Then came ‘Worship’ with DJ Snake, which pushed the project into full cross-continental territory.

The full album expands on all of that. Outside the previously released singles, the album includes ‘Gratitude’, ‘Forgiveness’, and ‘Asambe’, a collaboration with South African amapiano producer Kabza De Small. It’s a pairing that will likely draw attention, given both artists’ standing in their respective markets.

The album artwork was created by Iraqi-Dutch artist Arthar Jabar.

One Half Of The Estranged Duo P-Square Declares Nov 30 as his new birthday

Mr P has officially moved his birthday celebration from November 18 to November 30, adding a new layer to the ongoing P-Square family feud. What began as a social media declaration has now been formalised. A few hours after announcing his intention to change his birthday date, Peter Okoye, known professionally as Mr P, has issued an open letter confirming that November 18, the date he has shared with his twin brother Paul Okoye since birth in 1981, is no longer his day of celebration.

“Dear Family, Friends, and Fans,” the post read. “I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day. My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding.”

The message is brief, but its implications are quite clear. November 18 has long been one of the last remaining public symbols of a shared identity between two brothers whose professional and personal relationship has deteriorated sharply over the past several years.

By formally reassigning the date, Peter is drawing a line that goes beyond creative differences or business disputes.

The reaction from Nigerians online has been largely sceptical.

Many have questioned the necessity of the gesture, with a significant number describing it as petty and unnecessary given the more substantive issues that have defined the brothers’ current estrangement.

The consensus among critics is that changing a birthday date does little to resolve any of the actual grievances and serves mainly as a public statement of severance.

The feud between Peter and Paul Okoye has now spanned multiple years, two official splits, a brief reunion, and a growing list of public accusations on both sides. November 30 is still months away. To see if the gesture will land as true liberation or just pettiness may depend entirely on where things stand by then.

Asake Is the Most Streamed Artist of All Time on Spotify Nigeria

Spotify entered the Nigerian market 5 years ago, and in that time, Afrobeats superstar Asake has been the most-streamed artist on the platform.
In celebration of its fifth anniversary in Nigeria, Spotify has revealed the list of the top 5 most-streamed artists since it launched in the country in 2021. Topping the list is hitmaker Asake, who leads other global sensations in what is a testament to its status as an era-defining star.

Wizkid ranks second on the list as his illustrious career continued to hit new heights in the streaming era. Street pop sensation Seyi Vibez is ranked third thanks to his tireless project releases and a steady supply of hit singles, which have made him a digital force.

Burna Boy’s global historic feats can also be reconciled with his success in Nigeria, where he’s the fourth most-streamed artist in the history of Spotify Nigeria. Davido rounds off the top five after releasing two acclaimed projects and scoring several hit records since 2021.

In January 2022, Asake stepped into the Nigerian mainstream with the release of his hit single ‘Omo Ope,’ featuring Olamide Baddo, who added him to the roster of his label YBNL. The single became an instant hit and rocketed him to nationwide fame, yet not many could have anticipated the era-defining influence he was about to have on the nation’s music industry.

Wielding an emphatic artistry that found expression through his smooth blend of fuji inflected melodies and electrifying rap flows, Asake formed a formidable duo with producer Magicsticks, whose clever use of Amapiano imported log drums delivered a sound that revolutionized Nigerian mainstream pop music.

His debut EP was an emphatic success, and he followed up with the release of the singles ‘Pallazo’ featuring Spinall, ‘PBUY,’ and ‘Terminator,’ which led up to his debut album ‘Mr Money With Vibe’ released in December 2022.

Asake’s debut album announced not only his arrival but also his takeover as Afrobeats leading hitmaker. The album, filled with hits, has surpassed over 800 million Spotify streams. A year later, he followed up with his sophomore album ‘Work of Art,’ which was also an instant success thanks to its array of hit singles such as ‘Remember,’ ‘2:30,’ ‘Basquiat,’ and ‘Lonely At The Top,’ which is the most-streamed song in the history of Nigeria.
