Netflix hit Blood Sisters has zoomed the spotlight on its many stars, among them Kehinde Bankole who in a recent Instagram Live session with ace filmmaker Kunle Afolayon gave her take on what makes a successful Nollywood actor.
In the IG Live session, the actress advised that acting was not a profession to consider as a last resort when all else fails. Comparing acting to medicine and law, and other professions typically deemed “professional” Bankole said that acting was just as professional as the other professions.
Speaking with the Citation director she said, “Don’t see acting as a career you can come into when all other careers are not working for you. (Perhaps), you have been told that doctors and lawyers are more professional than actors, so you decided to start acting because you couldn’t cope in other fields.”
Kehinde Bankole also dismissed another widely held belief that acting had to do with just good looks. While the actress agreed that good looks was one of the requirement, she stated that it required more to remain relevant.
“Acting is not just about looking good; it involves a lot of intellectual work. You have to think on your toes, otherwise, you would become irrelevant. Being able to sustain relevance is the real work, being able to make it pay your bills,” she said.
Acting and fame, in general, are often considered as something that occurs with happenchance, however, Bankole explained that happened rarely as only a mere 1 in 500 people become famous solely by a stoke of goodluck.

“Stumbling on fame doesn’t happen like that for people every time, like the case of Olajumoke the bread seller. There are people whose stories are like that but it’s usually one out of every five hundred.”
Bankole who has been in the entertainment industry since 2003 does have a wealth of experience to draw these facts. A thoroughly professional actress, she recently revealed how she had to put on weight to play Yinka, her Blood Sister‘s character, and was now in the process of shedding the extra pounds required for that role.
In addition to Blood Sisters, she is also known for Dear, Affy.
