One of the rumors Aigbe addressed in the interview was the one accusing her of marrying the production company boss for his financial prowess. Mercy explained that she is an acclaimed and seasoned actress who has been financially independent for a long time and did not have the need to marry a man for his wealth.

To buttress her points, Mercy detailed facts, adding that she has a very successful clothing store and lucrative endorsement portfolio – all of which avails her with the funds to single-handedly pay for her daughter’s education in dollars. Mercy highlights friendship, peace of mind, and love as the reason she chose to become Mrs. Adeoti. Her statement to the media house read in part;

I am not poor to start with. I work very hard, and I wonder why people don’t see my hard work. I’m one of the most misunderstood people. I work so hard and hardly sleep. I have assets—my child is abroad and I pay school fees in dollars. I change naira to dollars, and I have been doing that before I got married. I don’t know how people got that notion that I married because of money.

It is not like he is poor, I’m also rich. I’m extremely comfortable to God’s glory. I married him because I love him, not because of money. I married him because he is my best friend. He gives me peace; he makes me happy. I didn’t marry him because of money, in fact, I’m working for him because we are business partners.”

We complement each other, so I also brought something to the table—it’s not like I just walked into the relationship without any value. I’m not a gold-digger, I work hard for my money. All those influencing jobs you see me do, I charge huge sums of money—and my store is also the most followed on Instagram, so I make a lot of money from that too,”

I have over 10 million followers on Instagram. I have been doing business for years. I am the first set of people that made so much money from influencing before it became very common and we made a lot of money. People are always judgmental; they don’t know the true picture.

Kazim Adeoti also addressed comments that he abandoned his first wife to be with Mercy Aigbe. The movie exec said that things were fine between him and his first wife and that his religion permits him to marry more than one wife.

My family resides in the US, and I shuttle between Nigeria and the US because my business is here in Nigeria. If people say we are separated, maybe it’s because my family is not here with me in Nigeria. So, I’m good with my first wife, we are good together.

Though there were issues initially, we are good now, everything is fine and back to normal. I am a Muslim and I am entitled to more than one wife—now I have two wives. I have two beautiful women and I’m glad.
