Lagos State Government Says COVID-19 Vaccination Will Begin This Weekend

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced  that COVID-19 vaccination will be rolled out all across the state this weekend. The Governor also announced a steering committee has been set up for the deployment of the vaccine, and the distribution of the vaccine.

On Tuesday, March 9, 2021, Lagos State received the first consignment of 507,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the federal government.

The Governor said:

“We have instituted a steering committee for the vaccine administration, which comprises health practitioners in the public and private sectors. Of all the states in Nigeria, the nations commercial capital has been most hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, recording more cases and deaths than any other state in Nigeria.

There Will Be No COVID Vaccination For People Under the age of 18 – FG

The Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora, and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has said that Nigerians under the age of 18 years will not receive the COVID-19 vaccines.

The Federal Government has said it plans to cover 70 per cent of Nigerians within two years. Four million vaccines will be arriving Nigeria on Tuesday, according to the Health minister Mamora. The PTF has approved the TEACH strategy and the electronic management immunization system as the method for administering the COVID vaccines.

The TEACH approach harnesses all the benefits of traditional, electronic, assisted and concomitant house-to-house registration to optimize the use of innovative technology. Mamora said that the TEACH approach entails traditional method of vaccinating target populations using desk review of available data sources, identifying the vaccination sites and roll out.

The health minister has also warned against private importation of vaccines and emphasized that only the approved health agencies had the right to administer and distribute this vaccines.
